Enough Blame to Go Around! When Barbara Frush proposed legislation to recall elected officials IF charged with a crime -- it seemed like a good idea at the time. After all, former Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson and his wife, Leslie had just been arrested from their home and his wife Leslie was about to take her seat on the County Council and in fact did take that seat. Then WHY would no one come to speak in favor of this legislation? Maybe -- because the voters did not know WHEN this legislation was scheduled to come up. It's not enough for one group in one part of the County to speak up -- this was an ENTIRE Prince George's County issue. Concerned Prince Georgians are pretty well read -- and we had not heard anything about the status of this legislation -- until it was too late. Yes -- we the voters are at fault for being apathetic -- but the civic association should have reached out to other civic associations in the County so that other Concerned Prince Georgians could have had an opportunity to participate fully in the process. Yes -- It's Enough Blame To Go Around!

County Settles with Mayor

Prince George's Does the Right Thing!

According to the Gazette (click here) and the Washington Post (click here), a settlement has been reached between Prince George's County and former Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo with regard to Prince George's Sheriff's Deputies breaking into the Mayor's home and murdering his beloved family pets.

We commend the Baker Administration for reversing the foolish posturing of Corporal Michael A. Jackson and Jack B. Johnson, and settling the case! At this point, we don't know how much the case has been settled for, but we believe that it should have been settled a long time ago.

Raising Employee Morale

Raising Employee Morale In these tough economic times there are several ways to raise the morale of employees. So many times managers and supervisors take the position that "employees should just be happy to have a job." Well -- duh -- people are happy to have a job but that doesn't mean that they should be subject to undue abuse and more often attitude from their superiors.

We have talked with employees of Prince George's County Government and contrary to popular belief -- these public servants want to serve its clients --the public -- but desperately seek leadership and direction from their managers and supervisors -- not ridicule, attitude and disrespect. They said they also would like to be at least "on par" with the rest of the surrounding jurisdictions, including the Federal Government with innovative work policies as "Alternate Work Schedules" and "Telecomute" policies and maybe even some "job sharing". What they "don't get" is that managers and supervisors are under the impression that just because they are physically in place at 8:30 in the morning -- that this equals to productivity. They also said its not just about "more money" it's about showing respect and appreciation for them as highly qualified professionals. More than once they indicated that this was not the case "behind the walls" of the County government and because of the tough economic times they were afraid of being harassed by their supervisors if they complained or being labeled a "disgruntled employee".

Come on "Baker Administration" Concerned Prince Georgians know you can do better than this in your quest to make a "Good County Great"! It is going to take a concerted effort of all Concerned Citizens including County employees to tackle the many problems of our Great County and ignoring the concerns vs. recruiting the efforts of 6,000 people won't get you there.

Dear Concerned Prince Georgians,

Do you RECALL a hard fought election that Mrs. Leslie Johnson won over a large group of competitors?Recall years of confirmations by the FBI that Mr. Johnson was under investigation for abusing taxpayer funded credit cards and numerous development deals?

I would suggest based on the results of the low turnout election that very few people recall any of the warning signs that we were all given. Elections have consequences and must be taken seriously because the stakes are high. (I type this as I look at my son) This is a lesson for why we must stay involved and engaged. Too many times politicians' own self interests and voters focus on charisma over substance seem to leave us hanging.

The last thing I will ask you to Recall is the old practice of “RECALL” by which voters can correct their mistakes. It is awful that the people of District 6 are not as well represented as they could be but let’s not compound the problem by focusing on restoring the rights to someone under indictment. Let’s accept the loss in the short term and work toward fixing any future mistakes by creating a RECALL Law NOW!!

Again, we ask "What Is Wrong With You People"? One would think that the Concerned Residents of District 6 would be forming a Coalition to determine how to "Recall Elected Officials" who have been indicted for any reason. News sources (click here) are reporting that another Prince George's County police officer has been suspended. What NOW you ask? This officer has been suspended for sending sexually suggestive messages to a young lady moments after he responded to her call for help. Yeah -- can you believe this "dude" sits in his police cruiser -- outside of her home -- and texts this young lady one graphic sexually suggestive message after another? The young lady rightfully gets nervous and calls her mother who leaves work early and together they file a formal complaint. OK, yeah the officer is now suspended from the force -- but one have to ask if he is now pissed off with the young lady because of his suspension? Will he now stalk her and her family? The good citizens of this County do not need to face fear from the very ones that are sworn to "protect and serve" us! This pisses me off! Concerned Prince Georgians we have a lot of work to do in the years ahead. Lets start by holding ALL of our elected officials responsible. If it ain't right -- It ain't right!

According to the Washington Post (click here) the Jack Johnson administration has been accused by incoming County Executive Rushern Baker of not cooperating with his transition team. This was first reported in The Monitor (click here) and (here). We hate to say, "we told you so," but think about it. This guy didn't cooperate with the F.B.I. What makes you think that he would cooperate with you? (I'm Just Sayin')

I mean really, Crooked Jack and his folks are too busy buying up paper shredders, shredding documents, hiding cash, and giving high paying jobs to incompetent croynies to worry about a little thing like transitioning government bother them. Even worse, they trot out Jim "Jack Johnson is the Best County Executive EVER" Keary, who says with a straight face: "This is the first we're hearing of this!" Well, we know the first resignation should come from Jim Keary. Do any of our loyal readers have any other suggestions?

This is UNBELIEVABLE!!

It appears that having a cool $179,000 laying around the house wasn't enough for the Johnsons, so Jack took it upon himself to pick up another $15,000 today. After he got busted by the FBI, Jack called Leslie and told her to not let the FBI in the house, tear up the check, and put the money in her Bra. Jack and Leslie Johnson Arrested!

According to the Washington Post (click here), TBD (click here), and the Gazette (click here). Soon to be former County Executive Jack Johnson's home and Upper Marlboro office in the County Administration Building were raided by federal agents. Sources tell us that a total of 13 search warrants were served related to Johnson's arrest. In addition to searching the plumbing in Johnson's home, Federal Agents also searched County Offices in Largo.

Johnson was handcuffed and lead away. He awaits a hearing in Federal Court. We'll keep our loyal readers posted.

Okay, like may concerned Prince Georgian's we've been glued to every media source trying to wrap our heads around the Leslie and Jack Johnson indictments. In watching the video of County Councilmember-elect Johnson being taken away, we noticed something strange.

Is it our imagination, or does it look like the Federal Agents are carrying a bag of haircare products for Mrs. Johnson that they put on top of the car? One knowledgeable person on our staff swore there's moisturizer and other potions and notions in the bag? How Much Will Jack Johnson's "Napoleonic" Complex Cost?

Driving around the County, Concerned Prince Georgians noticed that there are a lot of signs with soon to be former County Executive Jack Johnson's name all over. Longtime Johnson watchers know that he spared no expense to put his picture all over the County Administration Building in Upper Marlboro. He even went to so far as to have giant pictures of himself put on the sides of the County's Emergency Response mobile command bus. Even more convincing of his napoleon complex was that he put his name on signs in neighborhoods thoughout the County.

As we watched the County Council wrangle with budget decisions last week, we wondered if the County budgeted money to change ALL the signs Johnson's administration put up over the years that bear his moniker. Even more worrisome, does the County even KNOW where all the signs are? We'd bet that they don't. Maybe the County should set up a website and bounty for the rouge JJ signs?

Our loyal readers know that we're already expecting incoming County Executive Rushern Baker to get rid of those ridiculous "Livable Community" signs (click here); but come December 7, 2010, we expect the neighborhoods to be liberated from the tyranny of the Former County Executive's napoleon complex.

Biography of Transition Committee Chairman, Wayne Curry:
Wayne Curry grew up Cheverly, MD graduating from Bladensburg High School in 1968. Curry earned his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Western Maryland College in 1972 and his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1980. Curry worked as a teacher prior to working in the administration of Prince George's County Executive Winfield Kelly from 1974 until 1978. In 1994, Curry became the first African American to be elected Prince George’s County Executive. He served two consecutive terms from 1994 to 2002. Curry is currently a Partner in The Murphy Firm.

Biography of Transition Committee Executive Director, Kenneth Johnson:
Kenneth W. Johnson is a native of Bradbury Heights, MD. He attended Prince George’s County Public Schools graduating from the Science and Technology Program at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University and a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. Johnson began his legal career as a trial attorney representing public entities in southern California such as Los Angeles Unified School District, Southern California Rapid Transit District, and the County of Los Angeles. He is currently an Assistant General Counsel at Sodexo, Inc., an international food service and facilities management company.

As The Days Wind Down

As the days draw nearer to December 6th, 2010 when the new County Executive and several new Councilmembers take the helm there are "crazy moves" abound. One such move is the County Council's approval yesterday (click here) of pay raises for the Prince George's County Executive and County Councilmembers -- effective December 2011. (Please note that their salaries according to reports are already the highest salaries in the STATE)!

What Concerned Prince Georgians is having a hard time tracking is that "the majority of the outgoing Councilmembers voted for this pay raise even though they would not be the beneficiaries of same. And ... strange again -- not one of them asked the County's Budget Director to explain the budget numbers to ensure that the money was in the budget as they had when a meager 2% COLA was in question for County employees -- whom by the way have not had raises in over two years and in addition were subject to furloughs and RIF's for two consecutive years. Hmmmm

And ... right after they approved pay raises for the incoming County Executive and incumbent County Councilmembers -- what did this sitting Council do? They again -- "drilled" the County's Budget Director and chastised him once again for not having budget figures to justify the 2% COLA for County employees. "Go Figure"!

Concerned Prince Georgians is "at a loss" and believe me when I say -- that's not very often! No Comments Please!

Keep it "Livable" on the Way OUT!!

According to a recent report in the Washington Business Journal (click here), outgoing D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty has ordered freezes on new employee hiring, employee pay increases, and reduced departmental expenditures by 10 percent. Fenty has done this in response to a $175 Million budget shortfall, but also to allow his successor, Vincent Gray some flexibility in hiring and spending to influence his priorities.

This stands in stark contrast to PG County which has an $85 Million structural budget deficit that was closed with one-time budget stunts and budget tricks including transfers from the Maryland National Parks and Planning Commission. PG County Executive Jack Johnson has proposed a $12 Million pay increase for county employees (click here). More disturbing, Johnson has accelerated hiring in an attempt to provide cush jobs for his cronies and to bog down County Executive Elect Rushern Baker. We think Johnson should take a lesson from Fenty -- freeze the hirings, spending and pay increases.

Final Jacked Up Moves!

The Washington Post (click here) is reporting that Jack Johnson's outgoing Administration is proposing a 2 percent pay raise for Prince George's County employees. Concerned Prince Georgians say "no big deal" to that. County employees did not receive merit increases nor did they receive cost of living increases and in addition endured more than 10 days of being furloughed and some were even RIFed this past year!

The real story that WAPo need to get a handle on is Political Appointees being moved into "merit positions" in the final hour. Such Political Appointees include spokesman John Erzan being moved to a merit position at the Department of Corrections and Acting Chief Administrative Officer Ralph Moultrie being paid under the Office of Finance' budget. Concerned Prince Georgians are getting reports that there are many, many such other moves being made. Yeah -- the two percent meager pay raise might strap the incoming Administrstion somewhat -- but what really will "tie the hands" of a Baker Administration is incompetent individuals being placed under a protected merit system rendering "business as usual". Good luck Mr. Baker in moving our County from "Good to Great" with the hand you being dealt! Just Saying!

Currie Says, "Not Guilty"

Currie Pleads "Not Guilty"

According to the Baltimore Sun (click here) and the Gazette (click here), State Senator Ulysses Currie has plead not guilty to the charges in the 18-charge, 48-page criminal indictment (click here) filed against him.

Entering a "not guilty" plea is not surprising. What is surprising is that Currie is no longer represented by private attorney Dale Kelberman, and is now represented by federal public defender, Joseph L. Evans. This is most certainly a strong signal, given Currie's health problems, that Currie intends to cut a deal and spare himself a long, drawn-out trial. So the question is not if, but, when, will Currie step down from his senate seat.

The real "buzz" in Prince George's political circles is who should replace Currie once he steps down. Names that are already circulating are: Aisha Braveboy (click here), Derrick L. Davis (click here), and Jack B. Johnson. (click here)

We think the best person to step into Currie's seat would be Sam "The Servant of the People" Dean (click here). He has deep roots in the community, can build coalitions, can reach consensus, and could garner respect in Annapolis. Plus, he had a cool campaign theme song! (click here).

We're looking at the election results and noticed that she more than doubled her nearest opponent's vote total! In fact, she got more votes than the next two candidates combined!(click here) Wow! We guess she should get a championship belt too!

In spite of her impressive win, or rather because of it, we're expecting her to do a good job. This means: getting criminals off our streets, hiring qualified and competent attorneys, and no "shaking down" attorneys and staff members to fuel political ambitions! (You know . . . those little things that Jack Johnson did when he was State's Attorney.)

Former Chief of Police Melvin C. High has won the Democratic nomination for Prince George's County Sheriff, and will succeed Michael A. Jackson. Congratulations Chief High!(click here) However, you have a big task ahead of you! We suggest you start with:

Publicly releasing a complete and transparent report regarding the mishandled warrant which lead to the death of Lacole Hines. (click here) This report should document the system failures in the Office of the Sheriff, and give us, the citizens, your action plan for fixing those failures.

The warrant backlog under your predecessor has grown from under 30,000 to over 51,000! You should put a plan in place to reduce that backlog -- immediately. Here's a thought (really a strong suggestion): put the plan on your website. Don't say its a "manpower" issue either, because if the Sheriff's office can pay deputies to sit outside polling stations during early voting . . . surely you can pay them to DO THEIR JOBS -- serve warrants!

Develop a procedure for dealing with family pets that doesn't involve the use of deadly force!

Restore honor, pride and integrity back to the Office of the Sheriff!

MAKE SEPTEMBER 14, 2010 LACOLE HINES JUSTICE DAY! The Prince George's Monitor reported OUR OUTRAGE (click here) that 17-year old Lacole Hines was shot and killed, after the Sheriff's office failed to serve a felony arrest warrant filed two weeks prior to her death. We also reported that the Sheriff's office has over 48,000 unserved warrants, and that Sheriff Michael Jackson dishonestly proclaimed at the time of Ms. Hines', death that our citizens had nothing to be concerned about, with respect to the outstanding warrants.

We made a covenant with Ms. Hines and her family that we would not allow "the powers to be" to sweep her needless and senseless death under the rug because it is politically expedient for the Jack Johnson/Michael Jackson axis of evil. (click here) We cannot allow them to stand in their fine suits, while our innocent babies and children are being murdered in cold blood, and say, "To hell with the weak, the young, the helpless, and the poor." Jackson has stated that Ms. Hines' death was a mistake. Ms. Hines' death was no mistake. Her death was the result of Sheriff Michael Jackson's mis-management of the Sheriff's Department. When Michael Jackson took over the Sheriff's office, there were 30,000 outstanding warrants; today, the number of outstanding warrants exceeds 48,000 -- a 60% increase. Jackson hasn't explained why the warrants have increased under his leadership, nor how he plans to reduce the number of outstanding warrants. Ms. Hines' death is a testament to the corruption, mis-management of resources, and abuse of staff that has run rampant during Sheriff Jackson's tenure.

If Jack Johnson has it his way, you'd better hide your momma, daddy, husband, wife, kids, dogs, and cats because he wants Mike Jackson to be the next County Executive of Prince George's County.

Johnson says that he thinks Jackson will best continue his record of accomplishments.

Well, let's look at the track record!

1. Criminal Corruption and Criminal Indictments -- Johnson Appointees Robert Thomas, and Robert Isom, were indicted and convicted for corruption and criminal conspiracy for fraud and theft of county funds. (click here) (We reserved a special section just for Keith Washington.)

2. Pay for Play. Jack is as crooked as it gets. The Washington Post shed light on his corruption in giving away county land to developers. (click here) But it even gets worse. He "Hi-Jacked" one company by promising them that he would move the Department of Housing and Community Development to their building after they gave him and his cronies some money, but he failed to deliver. (click here) Johnson also gave away large amounts of grant money and funding that was tied to his friends, some of whom didn't even ask for the money. (click here) He even seemed to mess up the community grant funds from National Harbor. (click here) We can only speculate where the money went? (click here)

3. Personal Expenses Charged to Taxpayers. Johnson charged a lot of personal expenses to taxpayers on a county issued credit card, including first class flights to Africa, and rental cars and gasoline to visit his mother. (click here) Johnson even said, I think the people of Prince George's County expect me to fly first class. This abuse was so bad that the State Prosecutor opened an investigation into Johnson's credit card abuse. (click here)

4. Hire Incompetent Friends. Johnson has hired corrupt and incompetent people. (click here) The level of incompetence was so great that it culminated in Prince George's County having to return $ 2 Million in federal dollars. (click here) Now, when have you ever heard of anyone returning money to the federal government? You must not have a "Clue" to have to return federal money to the federal government! (click here)

5. KEITH WASHINGTON. A corporal in the Prince George's County Police Department who drove Johnson around during his campaign, was promoted to Deputy Director of Homeland Security by Johnson. He subsequently fatally shot Marlo Furniture deliverymen and wounded another at his Accokeek home, while they were delivering furniture. (click here)

What a fine track record and legacy you have Jack Johnson . . . and you want the citizens of Prince George's County to continue that legacy by electing Mike Jackson. The answer is NO! Hit the road Jack! And take Jackson with YOU!

Choice in Pr. George's: break from the past, or same-old

RESIDENTS OF Prince George's County deserve better than the mediocre local leadership they've had in recent years. Unaccountable, scandal-plagued incumbents in top local offices have contributed to widespread disappointment at the county's substandard schools, high crime rate and woeful shortage of good employers, good shopping and good restaurants. For many of its citizens, Prince George's has become synonymous with unfulfilled promise.

Lackluster political leadership is not exclusively to blame for these problems, but it's been an important factor. Too many of the county's elected officials have succumbed to a culture of cronyism, entitlement and impunity. In interviews with the crop of 40-odd candidates running for the County Council, we were struck by how few of them felt the need to advance any concrete, well-thought-out ideas to address the county's challenges.

The county needs new thinking, new energy and new blood, particularly in the top local office of county executive. As we said in a previous editorial, we believe Rushern L. Baker III offers all of that, in addition to rich experience as a state legislator who was highly respected for his integrity, ingenuity and openness. More than any candidate in the race for county executive, which will be decided in the Democratic primary this Tuesday, Mr. Baker holds the promise of a break from the past, and from a closed, old-school leadership style inadequate to the demands of 900,000 citizens in the nation's largest jurisdiction with a middle-class, African American majority.

By contrast, we remain more concerned than ever about the man who appears to be Mr. Baker's main rival in the race, Michael A. Jackson. Mr. Jackson, who has served as county sheriff for the past eight years, is a likable man. But in a number of important respects, he would represent a continuation of the status quo in Prince George's; little wonder that he has the backing of so many allies and aides of the current county executive, Jack B. Johnson.

Like Mr. Johnson, Mr. Jackson seems intolerant of dissent and appears to rely on a closed circle of political associates. Like Mr. Johnson, he seems oddly estranged from up-to-date thinking about policy, governance and administration. And like Mr. Johnson, he seems unwilling to insist on high standards of ethics in office -- particularly in the case of his own political allies.

All that was on display in a sworn deposition Mr. Jackson gave last month. (To view a videotape of the deposition, go to http://www.viddler.com/explore/alwayswatchinpg/videos/1/.) The deposition was in connection with a corruption case involving two high-ranking members of the sheriff's department and allies of Mr. Jackson. The two, Lt. Wendy Tyler and Capt. Nancy Ridgely, were indicted in July on charges of embezzlement. The video provides a taste of Mr. Jackson's management style, priorities and worldview, and it is disturbing on all counts.

Mr. Jackson acknowledged he was presented months before with serious allegations that funds were stolen from the Deputy Sheriff's Association, the union representing many of his department's employees. The allegations were contained in an audit performed by a qualified accounting firm. Nonetheless, he said, he refused to examine the evidence or even read the audit report that alleged theft of funds by a deputy in his department. Why? "Union business," he said. Wasn't he concerned or curious? "No," he answered succinctly.

Meanwhile, Mr. Jackson actually promoted Ms. Tyler, despite the fact that he knew she was under grand jury investigation and despite the fact that she ranked below several other candidates for promotion. (Following her indictment, she has since been suspended with pay.) As for Ms. Ridgely, the other senior deputy who was indicted, she has served as a top finance official in Mr. Jackson's campaign for county executive.

Mr. Jackson also sought to justify his department's reprimand of and other actions against Cpl. Robert Cease, a deputy sheriff who was the whistle-blower in the embezzlement case. Mr. Cease, who is president of the deputy sheriffs union, was warned not to speak about the case publicly, and his use of an official car was curtailed by the department. Asked about his department's treatment of Mr. Cease, Mr. Jackson called him "quite a disrespectful young man." Asked if it was appropriate to take actions against a whistle-blower who had helped uncover serious allegations of embezzlement, Mr. Jackson replied that he was unfamiliar with the term "whistle-blower."

Mr. Jackson has previously been criticized, including by this page, for his refusal to admit wrongdoing by his deputies in the shooting deaths of two dogs in an ill-conceived raid on the home of a local mayor. His office is under fire for mishandling arrest warrants, including its failure to post a warrant for a man wanted on assault charges who later shot his teenage girlfriend. Mr. Jackson's deposition testimony reinforces the impression of an official who is loath to admit mistakes, reluctant to take strong action to uproot corruption and in thrall to a closed circle of loyalists. These are not the attributes of a strong county executive, nor would they help to reform and revive a county whose abundant promise remains unfulfilled.

Senator's Campaign Treasurer Indicted for Embezzlement

According to today's Washington Post, State Sen. Ulysses "Uly" Currie's campaign treasurer Olivia Harrison was indicted by a grand jury for stealing more than $150,000 in campaign funds. (click here) This follows Sen. Currie's recent bribery indictment. (click here)

It seems like this whole campaign treasurer embezzlement thing has become quite the trend here in Prince George's County. This most recent embezzlement indictment follows Sheriff Michael Jackson's top aide's and campaign treasure's indictment (click here), coupled with Jackson's attempt to cover-up the indictment and silence the whistle blower who brought the crime to Jackson's attention. (click here) It appears that Currie, unlike Sheriff Jackson, was unaware that his campaign treasurer was embezzling funds. Jackson, the County's top law enforcement official, on the other hand, was told, and chose to attempt to cover-up the crime.

Dear Prince George's Residents,

Last night more than a hundred concerned Prince George's residents from all over the county gathered at the Bowie City Hall to hear from three candidates who had confirmed their attendance. In planning this event we believed it would be the final debate and straw poll before the September 14th election.(click here) It appears that those thoughts weren't correct as another event had already been scheduled but not publicly announced on the same day in south county. As a result after learning that Pastor Tony Lee and others had been working for months on pulling together a forum to speak to issues specifically important to their community, I reached out to Rev. Lee while he was on vacation in Martha's Vineyard to find a solution to the impasse. Sadly enough we were not able to reach a comprise to allow both events to go on. After conversation with some of the organizers of the debate and straw poll (Prince George's County Young Democrats, Governor Oden Bowie Democratic Club, Surratts-Clinton Democratic Club, and the Bowie Blade-News) we changed our previous event from 7-9PM to 7-8PM in an attempt to allow candidates to meet with both groups and shared the information with Rev. Lee as well as all of the candidates. Rushern Baker, Michael Jackson, and Henry Turner all confirmed they would seek to attend both events. Only candidates Gerron Levi and Samuel Dean expressed they likely would not be able to make it.

Today I am shocked to see that Sheriff Michael Jackson and his Communications Director have engaged in misleading statements about their campaigns intentions last night. When Michael Jackson's campaign first confirmed their attendance through his scheduler we were informed that "Mr. Jackson had not received the invitation from Pastor Lee" until after they had received our invite. That shocked me because after accepting our invitation a few of the other campaigns had already informed us of the other event in south county. In fact Jackson's scheduler went further to say "Mr. Jackson is very interested in hearing from young people and declined their invitation." As the debate moved closer we confirmed many times with all of our confirmed candidates they would be in attendance. Even more Sheriff Jackson's campaign engaged in an aggressive push as shown by the attached facebook screen shot to get their supporters to attend the forum. In fact key leaders in the Jackson campaign all rsvp'd for the event including Kendel Wade one of his main outreach coordinators. It is both sad and disappointing that Sheriff Jackson who is running to be the leader of our county would intend to mislead voters in this manner. Our coalition groups was not informed of his most recent decision until only 90 minutes before the forum but apparently reporters at papers such as the Gazette were informed as much as five hours before...ironically that was around the same time someone reporting to be another scheduler for the Sheriff called to confirm the start time and address of the venue. This cancellation also came after a conversation with Jackson's Communications Director on Tuesday night going over the rules for the forum and a personal conversation with the Sheriff himself no less than a week ago.

Finally I have to take issue with Rev. Lee's assertion that this forum was a "Bowie" event. While the forum was hosted in Bowie it was not a "Bowie" forum. In fact as the chair of the organizing committee I live in Cheverly. The President of the Prince George's County Young Democrats lives in Lanham. The Surratts-Clinton Democratic Club is based in Clinton. The Greater Marlboro Democratic Club is made up of members from Upper Marlboro and Clinton. This forum was a countywide forum as evidenced in the wide attendance we received last night. Attendees included people from as far north as Laurel and south as Fort Washington.

The issues at place in this years election are way too important for people running to lead us to play games with the minds of the voters. As a person who once supported the Sheriff I am personally offended and expected more.

We can't remember the last time we asked for an impeachment/resignation since after Hurricane Katrina, "Good job Brownie!" Before that we asked for it when we were told: "There are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq!" All of that kinda reminds us of: "Trust me! Don't worry about the 48,000 outstanding warrants, its nothing!" Concerned Prince Georgians -- Send a resounding message to the Sheriff on September 14th!

Campaign Alert! A Fake Ballot is going around and was first discovered during early voting at the Oxon Hill Library on Friday. This ballot not only was mailed under the auspice of a group called "Citizens for Change" but the group has been found to be fake with a fake address and fake treasurer's name. Concerned Prince Georgians -- we have a motto that -- "birds of a feather flock together" so if this fake ballot lists the good Rev. Muse erroneously as supporting Councilmember Samuel Dean as reported -- we can only surmise that Councilmember Dean is aware of this fakery. As our readers know Rev. C. Anthony Muse endorsed County Executive candidate Rushern Baker.

My Fox D.C. Com reports that Jerry Mathis, a candidate for the Prince George's County Council along with Albert Chatmon --(Senator Muse's opponent) and Delegate candidate Kriselda Valderrama as also listed on the fake ballot and is listed erroneously as being endorsed by Rev. Anthony Muse. Concerned Prince Georgians we implore you to be an informed voter. It is not too late! Make sure you study the official ballot sent to all registered voters by the Board of Elections. The Board of Elections will not have any names checked in the boxes. Don't vote for someone because you think they are cute or that they have the most amount of roadway signs littering our streets. All we can say is "God don't like ugly -- and those behind this trickery will never prevail"! Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler promises that "complaints about deceptive practices will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken." But --if we all vow to be informed voters we will not get tripped up by trickery!

In the meantime her abusive boyfriend continues to threaten her – telling her if he can’t have her no one will. Your 17 year old daughter is now getting scared. Why haven’t her abusive boyfriend been arrested she wonders? What could possibly be taking so long? She filed for the arrest warrant two weeks ago. Everyone told her that was the right thing to do. Nevertheless, she still tries to live her life as normally as possible so she goes to the store. When she comes out of the store her boyfriend is waiting for her. He shoots her in the head. As she is lying on the ground dying – all she can think about is what will happen to my baby now – and she starts to pray that her baby will be provided for. She is now her baby’s angel. For you see she died immediately after being removed from life support.

You work in the County government as a mid-level manager. Your Division has just been audited and a matter of theft is revealed in the audit. You take the audit to your superior. Your superior tells you that he/she has orders from the County Executive not to get involved in such matters, especially when any actions are against friends of the County Executive. If that wasn’t enough -- your superior retaliates against you for bringing the theft to his/her attention. You become so stressed that you are taking medication just so you can get up the energy to come to work. Everyday it’s a different act of aggression towards you by your superior. Your superior tells you that it’s not personal it’s policy and encourages you to think about a disability retirement. You are strongly considering it because you know that it is County policy to retaliate against any employee that didn’t vote for the current County Executive.

You wonder what your husband has ordered now and decide to go get the package and leave it on the table for him. Knowing the techie your husband is who knows what it could be. Moments later – a swat team of Deputy Sheriffs break through your door ordering you to the floor. Your husband wondering what the commotion is comes down the steps and he immediately is bound and gagged and ordered to the floor as well. Your precious dogs are scared but not hostile. The swat team has standard departmental orders to shoot all dogs on the premises and they proceed to do just that. Your precious animals are lying on the floor beside you as you hear them whine and cry prior to dying.

You go to the County’s permitting office and are told that if you want to expedite the permitting you have to pay an additional fee. You find the fee really exhorbient but are not surprised because that is now the price of doing business in PG County since the new administration took office in 2010. You decide to “bite the bullet” and pay the extra fee because you know that now under the new Administration -- if you want to “Play you have to Pay” in Prince George's County.

The Washington Post and News Channel 8 now TBD (click here) are reporting that Sheriff Michael Jackson's ardent supporter -- Theresa Dudley -- and a teacher at Drew Freeman Middle School gave a totally unacceptable classroom assignment to her eighth grade srudents. In short she asked her students to identify a litany of profane words. The profane words that were reportedly written on the board for her student's consumption were so extreme that the media said that they could not report all of them -- because of the family nature of their broadcast. But the profane words reported included -- (bastard, S.O.B., wimp, wuss, and sissy). The question -- "Concerned Prince Georgians" ask is - whether we want someone of Dudley's questionable character and judgment teaching our children? Dudley's judgment had already come under question with her ardent support for a candidate who in our opinion does not have the citizens of our Great County interests at heart. Yesterday, more bad news seemed to hit the Michael Jackson campaign when one of his highest profile supporters, Councilman Will Campos repudiated Jackson's campaign and denounced Jackson. In doing so, Campos became a "Baker Backer," and released a powerful statement encouraging all of his supporters to vote for Rushern Baker for County Executive. (click here)

Campos voiced ongoing concerns about Jackson that are resonating throughout Prince George's County, which are serious misgivings regarding Jackson's: truthfulness, temperament, experience, and management style. Campos cited the un-served warrant in the case of LaCole Hines, (click here) the growing backlog of criminal warrants under Jackson's watch, Jackson's testimony in the Robert Cease case, (click here) Jackson's department's continual policy of shooting family pets, (click here) and Jackson's refusal to investigate crimes committed by two members of his command staff and campaign treasurer, who where subsequently indicted for embezzlement by the Maryland State Prosecutor. Driving around the County, Concerned Prince Georgians are seeing some very disturbing acts of vandalism.

We are speaking of the race for Prince George's County Executive where campaign signs are being ripped apart and in some instances dug up from the ground. We understand that this is a "spirited race" but it is no reason to resort to violence and unfair play. We don't have it on video-- the culprit or culprits of this vandalism -- but because one candidate's signs seem to be targeted over others -- we can ONLY surmise that Mr. Rushern Baker's primary opponent -- Sheriff Michael Jackson -- is desperate and have resorted to taking desperate measures! If in fact Sheriff Michael Jackson "believes his own rhetoric" reported in a recent article in the -- Gazette (click here) -- that recent ghastly actions about his character and his complete lack of leadership will not affect his run for County Executive -- why -- WE ASK -- resort to DESPERATE MEASURES OF THIS MAGNITUDE?

While checking the "Justice for Lacole Hines" website -- (click here) -- Concerned Prince Georgians noted that less than 200 people have signed the Petition for Lacole Hines, the 17 year old young lady who was killed so senselessly -- all because Sheriff Michael Jackson's office failed to process a prior two-week old arrest warrant.

In addition, the irony is -- that most of the individuals that have signed this Petition thus far -- are not residents of Prince George's County but are as far north as Maine, as far west as California, as far south as Florida and even from Hawaii. -- As Concerned Prince Georgians, I am hard pressed to believe that we are not willing to speak up for Lacole. If we don't care about what is happening in our own home, how can we expect others to care? Remember this Petition is going to our Governor -- in the State of Maryland. How can we possibly ask our Maryland Governor to understand how incensed his constituents are about this terrible tragedy if we are not willing to speak up? -- It only takes a second -- and you can sign your name where it is not for public consumption. It's your signature that counts! We employ you to express your concern and outrage by taking a few moments to speak up for Lacole Hines.

Remember -- with 48,000 outstanding arrest warrants in Sheriff Michael Jackson's office -- God forbid -- a tragedy of this magnitude could befall you or someone you love at any time. This tragedy cannot be allowed to be "swept under the rug". And -- Citizens of Prince George's County -- if you don't speak up about this -- that is exactly what will happen. Believe us when we say -- Sheriff Michael Jackson wants it to go away! He does not want to be held accountable for his inaction and in addition he does not want his arrogance and incompetence to come to light! He wants to keep us all in the dark. He wants us to forget -- and/or blame someone else for Lacole's death. It is time that we hold all of our elected officials accountable and that can only be done by shouting loudly against INJUSTICE!

TO THE CITIZENS OF
PRINCE GEORGE'S
COUNTY, MARYLAND

August 22, 2010

May this open letter find you well and in good spirits as we search for solutions to the many problems that we face as a County.

Just over one week ago, a young woman's life came to a tragic end. Her name was Lacole Hines. She was a citizen of Prince George's County. She was 17 years old. She was murdered by her abusive boyfriend. At the time of her murder, there was a 2 week old outstanding warrant for her boyfriend's arrest because he had previously assaulted her with a handgun. However, that two week old warrant was not served by the Prince George's County Sheriff's Department, and her boyfriend was not arrested. We have been told by Sheriff Michael Jackson that it is "an unfortunate event," and that he failed to serve the warrant because of a "clerical error." (We don't believe this is the whole story).

Ms. Hines has been laid to rest, and she cannot stand up for herself; nor, can she stand up for other women, family members, or friends who may be victims of domestic violence. She can't stand up for her 6 week old child who will be an orphan. So will you stand up for her? Will you stand up for the helpless? Will you stand up for those who do not have access to the corridors of power in Upper Marlboro and Annapolis? Will you stand up for the weak? Will you call for hearings in Annapolis and/or Upper Marlboro by contacting your elected official(s) and demand that they direct the County Auditor or the Attorney General to perform a full review of: 1) the backlog of outstanding warrants in the Sheriff's Department and to categorize those warrants, 2) the Systems, Processes, Routines and Controls that are in place in the Sheriff's office to manage and serve warrants, and 3) Generate a report which details the who and what went wrong in Lacole's murder?

Will you as a Concerned Prince Georgian "speak truth to power" and will you shine a light of truth and justice in a dark place, and stand up for Lacole Hines?

And lastly -- will you sign the Justice for Lacole Hines petition by "clicking on Justice for Lacole Hines" (click here) and adding your name, with people all over America, to her Petition for Justice? We as a people cannot let Lacole's senseless death be treated as another "unfortunate tragedy"! We must hold all of our elected officials accountable! In a recent article in the Gazette (click here) Sheriff Michael Jackson asserts that recent ghastly actions about his character and his complete lack of leadership will not affect his run for County Executive because in his words -- "I touch the people. They know me," Jackson said. "What the public sees in the paper, they know who's been putting it out there: the people who don't live here." Huh!

Yes, Sheriff at one time we at least thought you were a nice guy -- not ready for the position of County Executive -- but still a nice guy. Well, regardless of what you claim -- we now know that you are NOT a nice guy. The Michael Jackson Thriller Video (click here) has come to light! It brings to light your arrogance, your ignorance and your total disregard for the rule of law! And it -- frightens us! The thought of someone as unstable as you becoming the leader of our GREAT County -- yes truly frightens US! Justice for Lacole Hines

The Prince George's Monitor reported OUR OUTRAGE (click here) that 17 year old Lacole Hines was shot and killed by her abusive boyfriend, after the Sheriff's office bumbled an arrest warrant filed two weeks prior to her death. We also reported that the Sheriff's office has 48,000 unserved warrants, and that Sheriff Michael Jackson proclaimed at a forum that our citizens had nothing to be concerned about -- that the majority of these warrants were for folks not showing up for jury duty or for minor traffic incidents. At the time of this statement Concerned Prince Georgians were at the least skeptical of this explanation.

We also made a covenant with Ms. Hines and her family that we would not allow "the powers to be" to sweep her needless and senseless death under the rug because it is politically expedient for the Jack Johnson/Michael Jackson axis of evil. We cannot allow them to stand in their fine suits, while our innocent babies and children are being murdered in cold blood, and say, "To hell with the weak, the helpless and the poor." The Washington Post (click here) recently described the tragic death of LaCole Hines as a "Deadly Mistake." While young Ms. Hines' death was tragic, it was no mistake. Her death was the result of Sheriff Michael Jackson's mis-management of the Sheriff's Department. When Michael Jackson took over the Sheriff's office, there were 30,000 outstanding warrants; today, the number of outstanding warrants stands at 48,000 -- a 60% increase. Jackson hasn't explained why the warrants have increased under his leadership, nor how he plans to reduce the number of outstanding warrants. Ms. Hines' death is a testament to the corruption, mis-management of resources, and abuse of staff that has run rampant during Sheriff Jackson's tenure. The WaPo's characterization fails to appreciate the inherent danger of a mismanaged Sheriff's Department. A Sheriff's Department where incompetence is promoted up (click here), where mid-level officials who are supposed to code warrants, allow those warrants to pile up on desks, while they surf porn on the internet, play Farmville on Facebook, and engage in cybersex on MySpace with an inmate! All of this is occurring with the full knowledge of Sheriff Jackson and his top deputy, Col. Paul A. Drula. As a result of this corruption, now Jackson refuses to keep statistics on the unserved warrants and now states, "we have an inventory." Just because you are "ignorant and a fool," we are not going to let you punk us! We are renewing our call for your immediate resignation and criminal indictment. Concerned Prince Georgians are outraged about the blatant refusal of Sheriff Michael Jackson to review an audit that incriminated Deputy Sheriff Lt. Wendy Tyler, his campaign Treasurer, and Deputy Sheriff Capt. Nancy Ridgely, his campaign Chair; and the promotion of one of these individuals to Captain of his coveted Domestic Violence Unit during the time that she was knowingly under a felony investigation -- followed by an indictment for theft.

Given that Jackson worked so hard to cover up the audit, shouldn't he be indicted for aiding and abetting after the fact? Just when Concerned Prince Georgians was about to conclude that Sheriff Michael Jackson was just maybe inexperienced and an ineffective Department Head (click here), another shocking revelation comes to light about the Sheriff!

The Washington Post (click here) is reporting that the Sheriff intentionally covered up charges of embezzlement by his campaign Treasurer and another Deputy Sheriff (click here,). Instead of enforcing the law (as one would expect the Sheriff to do) -- Corporal/Sheriff Jackson promoted her to Captain of his Domestic Violence Unit, while reprimanding the Whistleblower! And in the Sheriff's own testimony when questioned under oath -- about why he made these decisions? -- (Drum roll please!) The Sheriff said -- "IT WAS MY CHOICE"! WOW -- THIS IS THE HEIGHT OF ARROGANCE! We once thought of these as miss-steps, but now are re-evaluating these blunders as serious character flaws. Sheriff -- please -- if you love OUR Great County -- please, please, we appeal to you -- just GO AWAY quietly! Don't embarrass the citizens of this County any more than you already have!

A week ago, The Monitor noted that Sam Dean ditched his signature song, "Servant of the People" for the Stevie Wonder/Barack Obama "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."(click here) Now, he has decided to get rid of all the Pringles in his cupboards!

We have learned that Sam Dean has parted ways with his campaign manager, James "Jim" Pringle. In an exclusive statement released to The Monitor, Pringle confirmed that he initiated the split because he and Mr. Dean's handlers "shared different views on the direction the campaign should take in the final weeks before the election."

There is no word on who has been tapped to replace Pringle; however, given his speed and agility Chester Cheetos (click here) should be given strong consideration. We promise, Concerned Prince Georgians will not monitor this situation closely.

Teen on Life Support! Warrant Never Served!

Ms. Lacole Hines,17 (click here for Washington Post article) was supposed to be living like a normal teen, doing what teenagers do and having fun at summer's end -- with not a care in the world but instead she is on "life support" fighting for her life because Sheriff Michael Jackson's office failed to serve a warrant against Ms. Hines' abusive boyfriend. Oh -- and what are the Sheriff's comments on this -- "the mistake was an isolated incident." Well, Mr. Sheriff/Corporal Jackson, the Concerned Prince Georgians of our Great County don't believe you! By your own admission, the Sheriff's Department has 48,000 outstanding warrants. (We believe it's more like 52,000). In addition, you stated that when you took office in 2002 your office had a backlog of 30,000 warrants. Well, if we do the math, over an eight year period that's a 60% increase in a backlog of warrants! Where is your plan for decreasing this backlog? Give the citizens of our GREAT County one plausible reason why we should give you another promotion from Corporal, to Sheriff, to County Executive? We're just asking ... and not asking nicely!
P.S. Our prayers go out to Ms. Hines and her family for being a victim of gross incompetence and negligence!

In it's endorsement, the Gazette noted that Mr. Baker would enact solid policies, and demonstrate real leadership: "Baker's greatest strength lies in his determination to do what's best rather than to do what is easiest. As other legislators stood at the roadside gawking at the imploding school board in 2002, Baker made an effort to stabilize the system, despite the protests it sparked outside his office. Many criticized his decision but offered no alternatives to resolving the problem. Prince George's needs clean, open, accessible and responsive government, and among the candidates, Baker provides the greatest promise for the county's future." Wow! Just sayin'

To add insult to injury -- this unserved warrant relates to the coveted Domestic Violence division that the Sheriff touts as his brain child. Prince George's County is home to Air Force One, and Bo Obama is a frequent flier on the Presidential craft. As a result of the Prince George's County Sheriff's rash of dog assassinations (click here), we became concerned about the safety of the The First Dog while in Prince George's County.

The Monitor tried to get a statement from Jackson regarding the shootings and to get assurances about the First Dog's safety when he is in the County.

We weren't able to get a statement because Jackson's press liaison has been indicted on theft and conspiracy charges (click here).

Our advice to Bo is: If you stay on base at Andrews, you shouldn't have any problems (click here). However, if you go outside of the gates, Mr. Jackson might shoot to kill.

BUSTED!!!!

A certain member of our editorial board recalled (his "playa" days) going to bars and telling certain young ladies tall tales of having an important job, owning an expensive home, and driving a luxury car . . . only to have the valet pull up in a Ford Fiesta! (click here) After explaining that the car belonged to his brother, while his Jag was in the shop, a certain young lady told him to call her when he either (A) got his story straight, or (B) his Jag out of the shop. At that point, our young (now REAL old) "playa" decided that fictionalized writing is better done in books than in real life.

Well . . . according to the Washington City Paper (click here), our own Delegate Micheal Vaughn 24th District, hadn't learned that lesson the hard way. It seems that Delegate Vaughn claimed he played three seasons for the Dallas Cowboys. The City Paper checked the story out, and no records exist that Delegate Vaughn played for the Cowboys!

Like our young "playa," Delegate Vaughn, in an interview with the The CityPaper (click here) claims he signed as a free agent, got cut after five months with the team, and didn't make the final roster. In fact, he blamed the whole story on his webmaster.

We think the problem is that Delegate Vaughn claimed he was with the Cowboys. "C'mon MAN!" (click here) You know the Dallas Cowboys are like the most hated team in the entire Washington, DC metro area! He should have said the Seattle Seahawks. How about the Kansas City Chiefs?! Try the Calgary Stampeders, or the Washington Federals! Nobody would have cared! But of ALL teams THE DALLAS COWBOYS!

Like the sister at the beginning of the story, either (A) get your story straight, or (B) show us the contract. Otherwise, just change the team you played for to the Buffalo Bills!

(As a side note, The CityPaper called Delegate Vaughn out about the twenty year old picture on his campaign web site (click here), not us. We see Delegate Vaughn all the time and know he doesn't have that much hair (click here.))

WTOP (click here), Baltimore Fox 45 (click here), and News Channel 4 (click here) are reporting that another dog was shot by Sheriff Michael Jackson's deputies. What's UP with that SHERIFF! Just because your race for Prince George's County Executive is going "down the tubes" don't take it out on our defenseless and beloved pets! When you said at a recent forum that you would shoot Mayor Calvo's dogs all over again -- We just thought you were being irrational and a little sensitive. Never did we think that YOU and your sheriff deputies were serious! Can't ya'll carry stun guns, wait for animal control (click here) , or something? We mean -- REALLY!
And a question for fellow Prince Georgians, -- Do we want to be known as the DOG KILLER Capitol of the Nation? (click Here) If so -- then VOTE for the Sheriff on September 14th!

According to Thursday's Washington Examiner (click here), Prince George's County Executive Candidate Henry Turner failed to pay $250,000 in taxes. The Examiner goes on to explain that "the IRS" only got their money after filing a lien against Henry's $1.1. million home in Upper Marlboro. At a recent forum, Sheriff Jackson (click here) said Henry was a failed Developer! Do you think Sheriff Jackson dropped a dime on poor Henry to the Washington Examiner? Hmmmmm!

The Gloves Came Off But ....

The Gloves came off at Wednesday's NACCP Debate/Forum (click on Gazette's reporting), but I think the candidates taking the gloves off did more harm than good to their respective campaigns. Let's be real folks -- Henry Turner went too far on his attack of Gerron Levi -- (No More Women Votes for You) --Michael Jackson appeared like a spoiled child the entire evening evidenced by how far he sat from Mr. Turner pouting like a spoiled child, and his dismissal of the recent Washington Post endorsement of Rushern Baker appeared to be nothing but sour grapes; Gerron Levi, even though understandably so, responded to Henry Turner's attack on her like a "sapphire sister". (Ok, ok, her emotions that she demonstrated were entertaining). Mr. Servant of the People, Sam Dean, garbled his angry and frustrated message as it related to the vandalizing of signs, and in my first interpretation, I thought that he was referring to three of the remaining four candidates as -- A Thief, A Coward, and a Liar. (I was trying to distinguish who was who). It was explained to me later, and after reading the Gazette's interpretation that I understood in fact Mr. Baker and Mr. Dean have both had their campaign signs vandalized. I have personally seen "thief" spray painted on Mr. Baker's signs and "Liar" spray painted on Mr. Dean's signs. The only signs that seem to remain in tact are SHERIFF Michael Jackson's. Come on Candidates -- Can't We All Play Fair in our sandboxes?

Sam Dean Ditches his Cool!

A recent look at the the Sam Dean for County Executive website reveals that Sam Dean has ditched the smooth sounds of his campaign song, "Servant of the People," and replaced it with a video of a Sam Dean rally! The video opens up with a version of the Star Spangled Banner and Howard Stone yelling, "SAM DEAN has the experience!" and closes with the Barack Obama/Stevie Wonder "Signed, Sealed, Delivered." Come on Sam, you can be more original than that. You know that song only worked for Barack Obama as a campaign song. How about James Brown's: "Poppa Don't Take No Mess"? Many people thought that the Sam Dean inspired, "Servant of the People" was well . . . corny and bad. Sure, there were some words that didn't rhyme, the singer hit some bad notes, and the production level wasn't top notch, but it was kinda cool and very catchy! We started all of our editorial board meetings with that song, and when things got testy someone would break out into: "Look at the things that he has done . . . as a servant of the people." ... It would always lighten the mood. We all liked the song and miss it terribly! Bring back THE Servant of the People! Please.....

With all of his "executive management experience," a member of his command staff faces a criminal indictment for theft of union funds. What did you know, when did you know it, and why did you try to cover it up? Since Sheriff Michael Jackson is so effective against crime, why did the SHERIFF try to silence current union president Robert Cease, who reported the theft of funds to officials? Since the State Prosecutor has filed an indictment, will Cease get a public apology from Sheriff Jackson?

If you don't know the Corporal/Sheriff by now there is nothing else this Concerned Prince Georgian can say. I for one am sick and tired of being sick and tired -- sick of the incompetence of certain elected officials and tired that WE the voters -- appear not to hold them accountable!

All About Henry!

In the interest of learning more about the candidates for County Executive, we listened to Henry Turner's interview on the Kojo Show WAMU-FM 88.5. We didn't know ANYTHING about Mr. Turner and looked forward to the opportunity to learn something about him. Unfortunately for Mr. Turner, his interview on the Kojo Show was the same day that Chancellor Michelle Rhee decided to fire over 200 teachers, so his interview was overshadowed and cut short by that breaking news item. As a result, we really didn't learn much about Henry Turner. One thing that we did learn is that . . . he speaks well. (AAAaawww . . . Don't get brand new on us. Ya'll know that after the last eight years, at least that would be a refreshing change!) Since our loyal readers expect it, here are the highlights:

Turner spent 21 years in the Army.
He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1980 (the first class with women.)
He served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
He served half of his career at the Pentagon, and has staffed senior officers and civilian appointees.
He wants to: 1) change the image of Prince George's County, 2) provide jobs for citizens, and 3) improve the education system.
He is the only candidate that has not held elected office, but feels that the politics in the military are more intense than the politics in PG County. (Clearly, he hasn't read "The Monitor").
Wants to do a a performance audit of the County Budget.
He was appointed, by Jack Johnson, as the Chairman of the Veterans Commission and to the Prince George's County Historic Preservation Commission. (Keep this in mind.)
Turner thinks that County Government needs a "Culture Shift" and "Housecleaning." He accused Jack Johnson of hiring lackeys and morons. "He (Johnson) established an administration that's not based on competency, not based on the skill sets for the right job. It's based more so upon favorites, on cronyism. We need to bring into Prince George's County (and this is the beginning of changing that image) the best of the best, and surrounding ourselves with the best people in the right jobs."
Kojo and Tom Sherwood clowned Turner and asked him if there was only one appointment that was made without cronyism -- Turner's. Realizing he got clowned, Turner got a little flustered and said, "That's a good answer."
Turner cited Johnson's losing $5Million in Federal and State grants in the Housing agency because Johnson appointed a person who didn't have the skill set to lead the agency.
He wants to trim waste from the $3.3 Billion (combined, operating, capital and grant) school system budget, and wants to audit the school system's performance. He began to discuss how the school system closes schools, while at the same time builds schools, but didn't really fully vet this issue, but he did talk about the school system's inability to retain a Superintendent and teachers.
He wants to make sure that County contractors hire "legally documented workers," and take a proactive stance against illegal immigration.

So after listening to the Kojo show, we know a little bit more about Henry Turner, but since his interview was cut short, not enough to form an opinion one way or another. But, we are encouraged to learn more about him. So we encourage you to attend forums to learn more about Mr. Turner, as well as the other candidates for all public offices, so that on September 14th you can make an informed choice, and that way WE THE PEOPLE won't get CLOWNED! We will post a list of forums soon!

“I don’t know what he wants. HE’S GOTTEN WHAT HE’S GONNA GET FROM ME!” In the interest of trying to find out more about the candidates for County Executive, we got an opportunity to view the Michael Jackson interview from NewsChannel 8. We didn’t know a whole lot about Sherriff Jackson, and we looked forward to this opportunity to learn more about him. Boy did we learn a lot about him. It appeared that he was uncomfortable from the beginning, and at the end, Mr. Jackson had a complete, utter, and total meltdown. We thought he was going to beat the mess out of poor little Bruce DePuyt at that last question.
Here are the highlights:
• Sheriff Jackson was born and raised in Prince George’s County, he is a graduate of Crosslands High School! (Go Cavaliers!)

• He has two young grandchildren.

• When Sheriff Jackson came into office there were 30,000 outstanding warrants, and now there are 48,000 outstanding warrants. Prince George’s County has a huge court system, which issues about 300 warrants a day. Sheriff Jackson says that there is no way his office can keep up with all the warrants.

• Jackson says that most of these are for driving warrants, and by the way, he hates Rafael Hylton – who, according to Jackson, doesn’t have any management experience and better worry about the five other guys who are running, not about Jackson. (Based on this interview, Hylton better keep two eyes on Jackson – this is PG County . . . just sayin’.)

• Since running for County Executive Jackson has never had a policy press conference, to announce his policies or plans as county executive, but will have at least one before Sept. 14th. (Homie got his back up about this one.)
• He can knock on the door of the Governor’s mansion any time he wants. (O’Malley better win, -- 'just sayin’)

• He’s has a good relationship with Superintendant Hite, but is not sure if he is the man for the job.

• He wants more state and federal agencies to move into Prince George’s County, and does not feel like the County has been disrespected by not having its share of agencies.

• He wants to bring back trades and vocational education back into the County Schools. (Supt. Hite better want that too, if he wants to keep his job . . . 'just sayin’.)

• He’s planning on taking a six day vacation after he’s elected and before he starts to look at how he’s going to run the government. (He didn’t mention where he was going.)

Sheriff Homie has got a bit of a temper. Bruce DePuyt asked him about the raid on Mayor Calvo’s house and dude lost it. WOW! POW -- He went on a tirade about the media not covering how kids get killed in Prince George’s County, but they covered how he shot two dogs, and how nobody talked about all the drugs that were off the streets as a result of his department’s breaking into the man’s house and shooting the dogs. Then he said, “I gave the man an apology, I don’t know what he wants. HE’S GOTTEN WHAT HE’S GONNA GET FROM ME!” All we can say is if SHERIFF gets elected County Executive, Mayor Cheye Calvo, Rafael Hylton, and Bruce DePuyt – ya’ll better watch your backs. (Just sayin’) !!!!!

FROM GOOD TO GREAT – NOT! A recent letter to the Gazette chided County Executive candidate Rushern Baker for wanting to take Prince George’s County from “Good” to “Great.” The author took Mr. Baker to task by stating that Prince George’s County is already great. Unfortunately, the author is sadly mistaken, and maybe Mr. Baker is overly generous in his assessment that Prince George’s County is already good. Prince George’s is only “Livable,” and we have the pictures to prove it!

Perhaps “The Pledge for Prince George’s” should include taking down these demeaning and insulting signs? We can be a great County, but only if we get out on Sept. 14th and say, "No More Years!" to the inept and corrupt leadership that has forced this foolishness on Prince George's County!

Think . . . Pink!
Jack Johnson, Michael Jackson and Sam Dean have begun to assure top-level Johnson administration officials that they will be retained in a Jackson or Dean administration. Keeping Iris Boswell will save the County at least $2,000 in office painting costs. Back in 2002, when Johnson took over, Boswell had her freshly painted egg-shell white office in the County Administration Building painted . . . PINK! Well, the problem is that the shade of pink did not quite meet Ms. Boswell’s expectations, so she had it repainted a different shade of pink. Well, the second shade of pink was not to Ms. Boswell’s liking either, so she had it repainted a different shade of pink. After three tries and $6,000 -- whoopie the perfect shade of pink! What's the taxpayer price tag for having the perfect shade of pink? PRICELE$$!

Oh, and what happened to the only County Government employed Painter who could not seem to paint her office the correct shade of pink? He was fired or RIFed as they would tell it.

you will be amazed that there is 5+ pages regarding negative/unethical and corrupt actions of current elected officials. Let’s sweep out all current politicians that lacks character, integrity, and vision. And while we are sweeping let's not forget to sweep the dirt that's under the table. And who are those politicians that have made deals with outgoing elected officials solely for the purpose of extending their terms? Hint: Johnson-Jackson
It’s time to SWEEP and fumigate OUR beloved County! If we are not part of the solution WE are part of the problem! Primary Election Day is September 14th.

County Council WaPO Endorsements

The Washington Post lends it's endorsement to Mel Franklin and eight others in the race for County Council in Prince George's County. The county has many advantages but also faces an array of problems. They include a pandemic of home foreclosures; poverty, crime and unemployment; struggling public schools; an anemic commercial tax base; and Metro stations bereft of the surrounding development that such sites have attracted elsewhere in the region. Any one of those would be daunting. But Prince George's, with a population of about 850,000, suffers from an additional, self-inflicted wound: a political culture marked by cronyism, highhandedness, factionalism, and a lack of accountability.

Poor governance, bemoaned (mostly in private) by some of the county's own elected officials, has done more than damage Prince George's image; it has exacerbated the troubles that residents complain about. Commercial developers shy from projects in the county for fear of shakedowns by officials. Homeowners oppose higher property taxes -- which might help the schools -- for fear the funds will be misspent. The county's woes feed on themselves. In the regional sweepstakes to lure high-end corporate headquarters and employers, which the county so badly wants and needs, Prince George's is rarely in the running.

There are two pieces of good news regarding the county's leadership. One is that some of the worst members of the County Council are leaving, having reached the two-term limit."

Prince Georgians Let Our Voices Be Heard on September 14th!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Let us rid ourselves of this cancer that is about to overtake our County! If you lie down with dogs you will get fleas! Connect the dots folks ... Let's not have eight more years of Johnson and Jackson!

Concerned Prince Georgian’s -- lest we forget the past eight years of feeling embarrassed by a poorly run County government and one embarrassing moment after another. You can believe that Mike Jackson will reward the same incompetence that OUR great County had to endure for the past eight years.

Also lest we forget -- click on here for a “You Tube” depiction of SHERIFF Michael Jackson during his appearance on WAMU (88.5FM) and listen to his continued denial that his department did nothing wrong by shooting two poor innocent dogs and terrorizing the Mayor of Berwyn Heights and his family. In fact he now blames everything on the police department. The underlying story is that a bogus raid could happen to any of our wonderful citizens, with or without the shooting of our precious pets!

Lest we forget several media outlets reports that SHERIFF Michael Jackson’s office has more than 48,000 in a backlog of arrest warrants! Close to FIFTY THOUSAND ARREST WARRANTS! 50,000 bad people running around from rapists to murderers! We ask you Mr. Sheriff that you complete your job before you ask for a promotion!!!! Wonderful citizens of OUR great County … please do not reward incompetence again on September 14th! We have an opportunity once in every four years to speak loudly and clearly and let our voices and frustrations heard! Lest We Concerned Prince Georgians Forget!!!!

Latest of Folks Throwing Hat In Race For County Executive

Councilman Samuel Dean has decided to throw his hat in the race for Prince George’s County Executive in 2010. You all remember -- this is the same Samuel Dean that was surrounded by the misuse of the credit card debacle. The same Samuel Dean that allowed the current County Executive to abuse his powers; the same Samuel Dean that ran and hid anytime there were tough issues before the Council; the same Samuel Dean that stood up and endorsed Republican Michael Steele against the will of his constituents; and most recently the same Samuel Dean that walked out with Chairperson Marilyn Bland and refused to hear from the public—denying them their basic rights of free speech. Is this "as good as it gets"?
